Singular spectrum analysis as a tool for early detection of centrifugal compressor flow instability

چکیده

Centrifugal compressor machinery is subject to a potentially damaging phenomenon called surge at low mass flow rates. This effect may be preceded by phenomena known as inlet recirculation — reversal upstream of the impeller. A methodology isolate characteristic feature for monitoring centrifugal instability presented in this study. The based on nonparametric time series analysis technique singular spectrum (SSA). SSA decomposes signal into number Reconstructive Components (RCs), from which data trends and oscillatory components extracted. frequency spectra each RC their relative contributions reconstruction original were examined comparisons made with spectral maps existing literature. Individual independent RCs chosen construct compressor’s system. Additionally, performance was determined Window length parameter. modification parameter also studied, various viable choices component basis diagnosis considered. implemented pressure dynamical signals measured an experimental rig. High measurements taken conditions locations within compressor. results demonstrated potential identify extract information about local eventually successfully monitor instability.

Robust Control of Surge Instability in a Centrifugal Compressor

This paper proposes a robust design scheme for the control of surge phenomenon appearing in a centrifugal compressor. It is known the surge instability in compressor might lead to reduce the operating efficiency and even damage the machinery while both of unstable compressor characteristics and compressor load torque are hard to exactly measure in the practical application. Based on the assumpt...

A New Engineering Method for Fuzzy Reliability Analysis of Surge Detection and Isolation in Centrifugal Compressor

A new dual fuzzy controller for the nonlinear model of the compression system is proposed in this paper. The surge phenomenon in the centrifugal compressor, the non-linearities and uncertainties of the compression system make it impossible to use a conventional controller over a wide range of operation. This fuzzy controller is designed to consist of a active surge control and phase control wit...

Design, Analysis and Fabrication of a Meso-scale Centrifugal Compressor

A gas or vapor compressor is one of the key components of many engineering systems, such as certain designs of vapor compression refrigeration systems, cryo-coolers, air handlers. For meso-scale systems with linear dimensions of a few centimeters, conventional designs do not work efficiently because of rather large relative tolerances, and hence these meso-scale systems require micro-fabricated...

Centrifugal instability over a rotating cone in axial flow

In this study, a new centrifugal instability mode, which dominates within the boundary-layer flow over a slender rotating cone in still fluid, is used for the first time to model the problem within an enforced oncoming axial flow. The resulting problem necessitates an updated similarity solution to represent the basic flow more accurately than previous studies in the literature. The new mean fl...
